Referral marketing disclosure
How this site earns, who performs the work, and what that structure means for the homeowner who calls it.
Transparency about commercial structure matters more in this trade than most, because the company that answers the telephone is frequently not the company that arrives. Here is how this one is arranged.
Who actually performs the garage door work?
Independent contractors operating their own businesses, their own vehicles and their own insurance. They are not employees of KC Garage Door Tech. Each operates under their own business registration, which in Kansas City means registration with the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and across the county line means contractor licensing through Johnson County.
What does KC Garage Door Tech do?
Takes the call at any hour, establishes the fault from what you describe, matches it to a contractor who stocks the relevant parts and can reach your address, and remains the point of contact afterwards. The diagnosis stage matters: the difference between a failed spring and a stripped drive gear determines what is loaded on the vehicle before it leaves.
How is KC Garage Door Tech paid?
By the contractor, as a fee for the booking. The fee is a commercial arrangement between KC Garage Door Tech and that contractor and forms part of their cost of doing business, in the same way advertising expenditure does.
Does that fee increase what I pay?
The figure quoted to you on the driveway is the figure you pay. It is produced after the door is inspected and is itemised into parts and labour before you approve it. You are free to obtain other quotations and compare them line by line, which is what an itemised quotation is for.
Who holds the contract for the work?
You and the attending contractor. The invoice, any workmanship warranty, and any manufacturer warranty on parts all run between the two of you. KC Garage Door Tech arranged the introduction.
Then who do I raise a problem with?
KC Garage Door Tech, in the first instance. The contractor was selected by us, so a complaint about their work is taken by us and pursued with them on your behalf. The procedure and the timeframes are published at complaints policy. Nothing in that procedure limits your right to approach the contractor directly or to use any other remedy.
Is the site a manufacturer or a dealer?
Neither. No manufacturer affiliation, authorisation or endorsement exists. Brand names appear on this site only to identify the equipment in a customer's garage.
Why disclose this at all?
Because a homeowner is entitled to know whether the business they telephoned will be the business that attends, and because a structure that is only disclosed when questioned is not really disclosed.
