How people pay for this, and what insurance does and does not cover
Repairs are paid on completion. Doors and openers can be financed through third parties. Storm damage may be an insurance matter, and there is one thing nobody should ever agree to.
Repairs
Paid on completion, once the work is done and the door is running. Card, and the common digital wallets, are accepted on the driveway. There is no deposit on a repair — you are paying for something that has already happened in front of you.
The diagnostic charge of $69 to $119 is only payable if you decide not to go ahead. If the repair proceeds, it comes off the bill.
New doors and openers
Larger jobs usually run as a deposit with the order and the balance on completion, because doors are made to your size and colour and cannot be returned. The written estimate holds for 30 days, which is long enough to get an association letter back or to compare it against another quote. We would encourage comparing it; a quote that will not survive being read next to another one is not a quote worth having.
Third-party financing through the usual home-improvement lenders is available on door and opener installations. The contractor arranges it, the lender makes the decision, and the terms are the lender's. We do not lend, we do not take a position on whether borrowing is right for you, and we do not mark a price up to make a finance offer look better.
Insurance
Hail and wind damage to a garage door is often covered under the property section of a homeowners policy, subject to the deductible. This is a real consideration here: the Kansas Insurance Department recorded $128.3 million in storm claims on the Kansas side in 2025, with $91.0 million of that in Johnson County alone.
If you think you have a claim, do this in order. Photograph the door before anyone touches it, straight on and again in raking light, because hail pocking is nearly invisible head-on. Get a written, itemised estimate. Then contact your insurer. Establish early whether your panels are still manufactured, because where a section cannot be matched some insurers will fund a complete door rather than a visible mismatch.
Vehicle impact is different — that may fall under an auto policy rather than the home policy, depending on who hit it and what the circumstances were. Document it the same way either way.
What we document, we document accurately. We do not inflate an estimate to clear a deductible, and we do not describe damage that is not there.
The deductible thing
After every significant hail event, crews appear across Wyandotte and Johnson counties offering to "cover" or "waive" your deductible. It is insurance fraud, the homeowner who agrees is a participant in it, and the company offering it is usually gone before the work is a year old. We will not do it, and anyone who offers should be shown the door.
Landlords and letting agents
Common in Lenexa and around Fort Leavenworth in particular. Tell us who authorises the work when you ring and the estimate comes back itemised, in a form that goes through an owner or agent's approval process. That avoids the usual sequence where a technician arrives, finds four things, and nobody on site can sign anything off.
Commercial
Account terms are available for businesses with several doors or a planned maintenance schedule. Scheduled visits with a written report per door cost considerably less than a run of emergency call-outs — see commercial doors.
